Age-Old Question Do You Need to Have Your Own Product
Filed under: Affiliates

Whether or not you need to have your own product to become a successful affiliate marketer is a question that has been asked
and answered every few minutes since affiliate marketing came on the scene. The reason it is asked so often is because
everybody has a different answer. There are those who say you absolutely MUST have your own product to get started and to
succeed in affiliate marketing and then there are those who say you don’t need a product when you start or ever to be
successful. So, which is it? Yes? No?

The fact of the matter is that everybody is right. Having your own product is great but it isn’t absolutely necessary. Those
who have their own product can build a website around that product and add affiliate links to it. Those who don’t have their
own products can still create a great website and be an affiliate marketer. Producers of products love affiliate marketers
and products are not the least bit hard to find.

The thing that both those who do and those who don’t have their own product have in common is that they both must be
passionate about the products they sell. You will never be successful in selling something that you aren’t interested in
yourself. It takes drive and ambition to succeed at any endeavor and affiliate marketing isn’t any different. You must be
passionate about a product or an idea in order to keep your drive and ambition alive and well for the long haul.

Whether you are marketing your own product or a product produced by others your success is directly related to how effective
your marketing techniques are, how focused you are, how well you manage your time, and how much you believe in the product.

Making Back-End & Residual Commissions

Residual income puts money in an affiliate marketer’s pocket without any work or effort on their part. It doesn’t get any
better than that. Sales of back-end products allow you to get paid for work that you do more than once. The idea here is to
work smarter…not harder.

So what are back-end products? They are products/services you offer to existing customers, i.e. to people who have already
bought a first product (front-end product. lead product) from you.

Most online marketers make much more money selling customers the second, third, fourth etc. product than selling their first
product. The reason is that people who've already bought from you once are much more likely to buy again.

Strategies like back-end offers shifts the focus from the short sighted "take the money and run" strategy that is so much in
use on the internet today. You've seen these sites all over. The focus is on getting a massive amount of traffic and then
selling visitors an over-priced product that doesn't deliver what was promised. They might make money in the short run but
they will only sell to each customer once and will have to continue spending a lot of money on advertising to get new
suckers to visit their site.

More successful sites focus on building a strong relationship with their customers. Your main goal shouldn't be to just make
sure your customers are somewhat satisfied...you want them to be extremely satisfied. If you deliver the goods, your
customers will trust you more. If you have their trust, you can sell them anything. When you send your very satisfied
customers an email offering another product that they would be interested in, they will flock to your site to buy it because
they trust you. Trust is everything.

Choosing the Right Product

When you first start your online business, the first and most obvious question you will ask yourself is…what am I going to
sell? Points to consider when deciding the answer to that question are:

· Is it light and easy to ship?
· Is it a digital good that is downloaded (e-book or software)?
· Is it perishable or fragile?
· Does it have to be seen and held (designer fabrics, perhaps)
· Is there enough demand to make your venture profitable?
· Does it have little competition from large online companies (niche products)?

The last two characteristics are the ones that can be hard to pin down. Here is a generally accepted method of arriving at
an idea of how heavy the demand and competition is for a product.

If you have a special interest in some products that meet the above criteria, great, but don't limit your investigation just
to items you like. You are looking for a niche product with relatively good demand (enough to make it profitable), but
without heavy competition.

One way to see what the demand is for products you are interested in is to look at search engines to see how frequently
people search for the product you are considering.

The result of all this research should be that one or more products will fit into a niche market - products with some
demand, and relatively little supply. For the best results, focus on one niche product category, and offer a wide selection.
That way, you can become the best online source for that particular category. For example, instead of offering general craft
supplies, offer the widest possible selection of needlepoint kits. This strategy will also allow you to rank higher in
search engines because you can optimize your pages for fewer, more specific, keywords.

Other Notable Common Affiliate Marketing Mistakes
Filed under: Affiliates

It isn’t hard to set up a good website and start and affiliate marketing career. It isn’t hard at all to find affiliate
marketing opportunities on the internet. However, it is a very simple thing to make deadly mistakes that will insure your
failure to thrive at affiliate marketing.

One of the most notable affiliate marketing mistakes is to think that all you have to do is find the ones that pay the most,
sign up, drive traffic to that site through your affiliate link and you’re all set right? Not exactly.

It’s great to choose an affiliate program that pays a high percentage, but that’s not most important thing to consider. It’s
much more important to find a quality affiliate program that meets certain criteria. Here are three mistakes you don’t have
to make:

1. You want to make sure the product is a proven seller. You don’t want to waste your time and money driving traffic to
a site that doesn’t convert. Find one with a good conversion rate.

2. Make sure the site you become an affiliate for protects its affiliates, and has your best interest at heart. Look
for one that provides banners, e-mails, and other tools you can use to promote the site. Also, make sure that there is only
one payment option. As an affiliate marketer, you need to be sure that you will get credit for your referral. If there is
more than one payment method, you can get shortchanged.

3. Do not choose an affiliate program that promotes an e-mail course. Nothing is worse than becoming an affiliate to a
site that’s first goal is to capture e-mail addresses, and then tries to make the sale second. As an affiliate marketer, you
need to capture e-mail addresses, then to convert that prospect into a sale. Stick with affiliate programs that aren’t
focused on capturing leads because it’s simply not in your best interest. Build your own list, not someone else’s.

Telling Good Traffic from Bad

Everyday that goes by you can bet that any serious website owner is wondering how to get more traffic to their site. This
intense desire to generate more clicks makes virtually any online entrepreneur easy prey to many of the traffic schemes and
scams that pervade the Internet.

Wild promises of high volume traffic and big bucks often separate even the most savvy business person from their money
because they want to believe the promises made by these traffic hucksters. The problem is that high volume doesn’t
necessarily translate into a high sales rate.

The visitors who come to your website as a result of  a desire to find out more on a specific, niche topic, not as a result
of exit traffic or membership in a safe list where members simply pitch each other.  Good traffic comes from people clicking
links on topics targeted to their interests and getting directed to a website containing information they want and expect as
a result of clicking the link. The bottom line is that when you get right down to it the best and most dependable sources of
targeted traffic come from links that people click.

Being able to determine which clicks actually result in sales is vital. To track conversions from click to sales, depending
on the type of shopping cart software you are using, you can then create a custom order confirmation page - i.e. the page
that is displayed once the transaction is complete. This is very easy to do if you're using a payment processing service
such as PayPal.

It's well known that each search engine and each web site has a particular type of user (age, interests etc.), and they'll
all have different triggers leading them to purchase. All of these things are important for you to know so that your
advertising dollars will be spent in the most advantageous places.

Setting Up your Affiliate Marketing System
Filed under: Affiliates

There is much speculation about how much money you can earn online without your own product. Marketing your own digital
product on the Internet can be very lucrative but there is no reason why you canrsquo;t profit a great deal by using creative
methods that offer real value to Internet surfers and have your own product as well.

An affiliate program is really not as difficult to set up as you may think. Thanks to the high demand for affiliate systems
recently, there are now lots of ways to set up your own program.

Here's what you need to set one up:

1. A web site with your own domain name.

2. At least one product or service that you own completely.

3. A system to handle commission tracking and payment.
That sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? Well, actually it is! And it's getting easier all the time.

The first two items listed above are self-explanatory. Of course, you need your own website and your own product or service.
You can't very well set up an associate program if you don't own the site or the product(s) you will be promoting. If you
have not taken these two steps, you'll need to do them first. Once you've managed to get by these two steps, you can move
right to step three, setting up your program.

You will need to search the Internet for a system that will handle commission tracking and payment. You can try to do this
yourself but you will most likely miss some and missed ones are missed income. There are free ones, as well as, paid ones.

The positive aspects of an associate management system are many:

1. You can sign on associates more rapidly and grow a larger force of resellers.

2. You'll enjoy the automation and online management of affiliates.

3. These systems provide full sales statistics for both you and your associates.

Have Your Own Voice Through Creating Special Reports
Filed under: Affiliates

You're probably searching for additional revenue streams to keep your business solid and secure in this contracting economy
and uncertain world.  Producing specialized content for sale is one of the fastest, most reliable methods of making extra
income fast.  Writing a "white paper" or a special report, is a great way to set yourself up as an expert in your field, and
share valuable information with your prospects.

You may already have most of the ingredients for an e-book or special report in your files or archives.  Find out which
ingredients make customers willing to pay you for material available from other sources, and what elements you should
include in your marketing copy to spark their interest in buying now.

Here are the steps to take when writing your special report:

· Have your end goal in mind before you start.

· Do you want to find a way to increase sales, while reducing your cost to acquire those sales?

· Who are you trying to impress and what is important to them?

· What distribution method will be best?

· How many people do you want to impact with this report?

· Make sure the layout of your special report looks pleasing, and is very easy to read.

· Keep in mind that it’s basically salesmanship in print.

· Keep your facts accurate, very brief and to the point. The denser your information, the more valuable and more
likely to keep the interest of your reader.

· Write an attention getting headline. 95% of your readers will decide if they will read your special report based
totally on your headline, so make it great and make it benefit driven.

Get it on the web. When emailing others, include your white paper URL in your SIG line of your Email or include the URL when
promoting your special report on Email discussion lists.

Have a Mailing List of Your Own

No matter what type of email you send out, you’ll need a mailing list. The basic way to build a mailing list is by
capturing name and email address information for everyone who buys or shows interest in your product.

An email list that YOU COLLECT YOURSELF is worth its weight in gold. This can be accomplished by using a list
manager on your site. List managers also provide the HTML coding for the form on the Gateway pages. A list manager
collects the email addresses that are gathered with the form.  Thus, your email list is collected. This might take
some time so there are methods to use until you get your own email list built.

One way to build a mailing list is to do ad swaps with other list owners. The way this works is, you (as company A)
have an email list that you send newsletters to and another list owner (company B) has a list they send newsletters
to. Company A and Company B place ads on one another’s mailing lists. Each of you is promoting the other’s list.

You can rent or buy targeted email lists. The list you develop using your own customers’ names is called your “
house list.” Of course, when you’re first starting out, your house list is likely to be skimpy. To augment it, one
way to go is rent or buy a mailing list. There are two ways to buy or rent a mailing list—approaching the company
you want to rent from directly or using a list broker. Any company that emails information to its customers usually
has a list manager, who handles inquiries and orders for the mailing list.

Another way to build an email list is to list your newsletter in all of the ezine directories.

Where to Look for the Right Product Online
Filed under: Affiliates

Where to Look for the Right Product Online

When you are just starting your online business finding the right products to sell online is the number one
problem. Knowing where to look can help.

1. Drop Shipper Directories Drop shippers are wholesalers that will ship direct to your customers so
that you don't have to invest in or store inventory. Directories of drop shippers are for sale online, but
make sure you're buying a reputable one.

2. Local Businesses: You may find businesses in your backyard that offer just the right products, but
are not yet into e-commerce. Offer to sell their product online in exchange for a percentage of any profits
you make.

3. Crafters: Local crafters are a good source of unique products, and may be willing to reduce their
prices for you if you purchase in quantity. Either buy the item outright, or set up a consignment
arrangement with them.

4. Garage sales and flea markets: G garage sales are a good place to look for items to sell online. Do
some research into categories that interest you, and then start scouring sales for good prices.

5. eBay: eBay itself can be a source for products. Look for wholesale lots that can be broken down for
individual sale.

6. Wholesaler Directories: Your local library will probably have directories of manufacturers,
wholesalers, and/or distributors. Most directories are organized by SIC code so that you can zero in on the
product categories that interested you.

7. Trade Shows: Trade shows are a great way to source products. Lots of merchants gather in one place
to look for resellers. To find trade shows in a particular industry, contact trade associations and industry
publications.

8. Importers/Exporters: You might want to consider contacting companies that import goods from
overseas. It's possible to source directly from overseas. This requires a lot of expertise, but many
companies do it successfully.

Folk Art Auction

Folk art auctions feature a wide range of objects that reflect the artist’s craft traditions, and traditional
social values.  Folk art is generally produced by people who have little or no academic artistic training.
Folk artists usually use established techniques and styles of a particular region or culture.

Folk art auctions include paintings, sculptures and other decorative art forms.  Some artists also consider
utilitarian objects such as tools and costumes as folk art.  For the most part, the category of folk art auctions
exclude works by professional artists.

It has been my experience that folk art auctions have something for just about anyone.  I found a folk art
painting of a cat in a peach tree that was done by the artist Tascha.  The artist also noted on the folk art
auction that they create unique ceramic tile art.

My mother purchased a blanket chest for me years ago that I listed recently in a folk art auction.  The chest
was made about two hundred hears ago and is very beautiful.  The original painted decorations are still intact.

I found an interesting folk art auction for a carnival knock-down dummy in the shape of a large cat.  It was
made around 1930 and is twice the size of similar items.  I researched the item on a non-auction site and
found that it is worth a lot of money.

My heart is still swayed by Americana folk art auctions.  I recently fell in love with a painting I found up
for auction of Elvis on a Harley in front of a large American flag.  It was spectacular!  The stretched canvas
was painted with acrylics.

I especially like the Halloween themed folk art auction I found that was offered by Sister Raya New Orleans
Folk Art.  The title of the painting was Little Spooky the Cat – Awaiting the Great Pumpkin.  The painting was
painted in classic vintage style and used gold maple, red sapphire, blue pearl, white, pumpkin orange, sable
brown, amber rust and jet black.  I would love to have this hanging on my wall all through the autumn months.

Another folk art auction that I found and was sad to bid up past my budget was a handmade set of miniature
dominos.  The set was in a folk art decorated maple case.  The set dates from the mid to late 1800’s.  It was
really exquisite and I’m sorry that I missed out on it.

I really liked another folk art auction that I found for a modern fraktur.  A fraktur is a specific kind of
Pennsylvania German folk art.  The fraktur I found was a watercolor of a marriage record.  It was very
colorful and looked like it held very special significance to its original owners.

I found a wood box from Maine in a folk art auction that really appealed to me.  It was rather small, but
was painted chrome yellow and was trimmed in forest green.  The paint was crazed and worn and it was made
in the late nineteenth century.  There were no visible nails and the hardware was reported as looking original.

The folk art auction that I missed out on that was way out of my price range was for an Andrew Clemens sand
bottle.  The sand bottle was date 1887 and was covered in patriotic decorations.  It was an apothecary style
bottle with a stopper and it contained at least ten different colors of sand.  The bottle ended up selling
for eighty five hundred dollars.  I’m sure that it has ended up in an excellent collection of folk art.

I found an amusing folk art auction for three wooden carvings.  The name of the piece was Three Articulating
Folk Art Whimseys and were all made by the same artist. The carvings were accented with sheet metal neckties.
The first carving in the folk art auction was of a cobbler, a blacksmith and a gentleman with a donkey.  The
second carving was a diminutive soldier and the third was a cobbler smoking a pipe.  I think that this piece
of Americana was purchased at a low price of three thousand dollars and was worth much more.

Art Auction In eBay

I’ve been looking at art auctions on eBay all day today.  I have found some wonderful things.  I browsed the Art
category and chose the subcategory of self-representing artists.

I like what I see for sale.  Art auctions on eBay are a great way for an unknown or even a known artist to sell
their paintings.  I found some nice paintings in the featured section.

Since I was looking at art auctions on eBay, I used the option to just view the picture gallery.  I’m glad I did
that because I really just wanted to see the art, not the title of the auction.  What immediately caught my eye
was all of the bold colors.

On the first page of image results of art auctions on eBay, there was a beautiful painting of a martini.  I
think that martini images seem very classy to me.  I can visualize this painting in the home of someone with
a glass coffee table and a leather couch!

The virtual foot traffic that art auctions on eBay gets is incredible.  The artist can get so much more exposure
to so many more people than hanging their paintings in galleries.  It is just such a good way to get discovered.

I did think it was a little funny when I saw art auctions on eBay listed for 99 million dollars.  The artist
wants to make history by breaking the world record for the most paid for a painting by a living artist.  The
record is currently forty million dollars.

There was another art auction on eBay that really caught my eye.  The artist was Kelly Shanks and she lives in
Boston.  The painting that I saw was done in an impressionist style and called Neon Rain.  It is part of her
New Orleans series.  I liked it a lot.

I found an art auction on eBay for a painting entitled The Egg Eaters.  It was really odd and didn’t exactly
suit me.  I tried to imagine where it would end up hanging.  I think that fantasy art just can’t hang everywhere.
I can see this hanging in an upscale gaming store or in a bachelor pad.

The funniest art auction I saw on eBay was for a folk art rendition of a Jack Russell terrier.  I can only
imagine that a dog lover should own and display this.  The dog looks like he is about to jump up on me!

I found a landscape that I really liked when I was looking through the art auctions on eBay.  The piece was
called Red Barn under Praire Clouds.  I think that if this was hanging in my bedroom, I might never get out of
bed.  I love to watch clouds.

I guess I just don’t understand abstract art.  I think if I understood it, I could appreciate it.  I found an
art auction on eBay for an original painting called Beige Dancelines #2.  The artist says that it is an
abstract dancing figure.  I just can’t see anything but an oversized ear.

There were so many photos to look at when I was searching on eBay for art auctions.  I think that my tastes
really run to realism and landscapes.  I especially liked a painting of Alaska by Hunter Jay.  The blues in
the picture were really nice; I’ll bet that this painting is wonderful in person.

My mother-in-law has been decorating her house slowly.  I found a really nice art auction on eBay for her
that would fit her likes.  The painting depicts a tree at sunset and is just beautiful.  The artist has a
lot of auctions and I really hope that she sells a lot.  She is very talented.

The only other art auction on eBay that I spent a lot of time looking at was a painting of red tulips against
a yellow sky.  I’m not sure why I was so taken by this painting.  Tulips are my favorite flower.  The tulips
in this painting are just suspended in the center.  They just seem to hang there magically.  I really liked
this depiction of my favorite flower.

Art Poster Auctions

Art poster auctions are very popular.  Owning great pieces of art has gotten easier.  A properly framed art
poster can be as nice as owning an original painting and it is far less expensive.

I have found many different art styles in art poster auctions.  The most expensive art poster in the abstract
style sold recently on eBay was a 1959 Picasso entitled Les Menines.  The poster sold for $560.00.

There was an original and authentic art poster auction recently in the art deco style that caught my eye.
The poster was from 1961 and was for Breakfast at Tiffany.  The poster sold for over three thousand dollars.

World’s Fair art poster auctions seem to do very well.  I saw an auction for the 1939 New York World’s Fair
that sold for more than fifteen hundred dollars.  There was another art poster auction for the 1933 Chicago
World’s Fair that went for just under fifteen hundred dollars.

In the Asian art poster auction market, there seems to be some really odd things.  I found a poster that
depicted McDonald’s hamburgers invading Japan.  The poster got fourteen bids from six different people and
it closed at four hundred fifty five dollars.

In the category of Impressionist art poster auctions, I found one for the 2006 Jazz Festival in New Orleans
that sold for over four hundred dollars.  It was done by a Cajun artist named James Michalopulos and featured
Fats Domino.  The colors in the poster were brilliant.

I found that the category of Modern art posters seems to get the most auction listings.  There is one art
poster that keeps being re-listed because it just doesn’t sell.  The poster is from the Elvis movie Love Me
Tender.  Apparently the owner of this poster has determined that it is worth one thousand dollars and will
not take less than that.  He hasn’t sold it yet, but I wish him luck.

There were another Modern art poster auctions that really did well as far as I could tell.  They were Greyhound
travel posters.  There were a couple of art poster auctions that sold recently.  They were both created in the
1950’s and both of the posters sold for around three hundred dollars each.

After researching so many art poster auctions, I have come to the conclusion that my parents and grandparents
should have collected every piece of advertising they ever came across.  They would be worth a small fortune
by now!

The Sante Fe Railroad as a subject is prominently sold in art poster auctions.  These must be highly collectable
because they generate a lot of bids.  If the art poster auction is for an old original poster of the
Sante Fe Railroad, it will fetch upwards of four hundred dollars.

I found an art poster auction that was listed by the artist himself.  He made a black ink drawing for the Pearl
Jam concert in Rome in 1996.  This original drawing was what the poster was made from.

Pop art poster auctions cover a lot of different topics.  One of my favorites was a 7-up soda advertisement from
1970 that featured The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.  The item did not sell, but it was fun to look at.

In the style of Realism, art poster auctions abound.  I found one that was an advertisement for United Airlines
and depicted the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  This poster sold for over one hundred fifty dollars.

The most interesting art poster auctions I found were for rock concerts.  I liked the one listed for at 1956
Rolling Stones concert and there was another one for a Grateful Dead concert in Hawaii.  They sold for a combined
total of over seven thousand dollars.  The interest in these art poster auctions was overwhelming.

Advertising seems to be a big theme in the art poster auctions that I looked at.  I found advertisements for just
about everything.  I liked the poster for Russian beer that was created in the late 1920’s.  It would look fantastic
framed in my neighborhood bar.  The buyer of this particular poster bought it for $475.00.

Concert posters are fun to look through.  Art poster auctions feature a lot of posters for concerts.  I found one
that was made by Jim Pollock for a Phish concert in 2000 in Hartford.  I liked it, but I am not a fan of Phish and
the three hundred dollars that it went for seemed a little pricey to me.

Tips on feeding Koi

One of the best features of Koi is their lack of fear for humans. Once the Koi understand that you are not going to
harm them, and that you are the one who provides them food, they will likely eat right out of your hand with the right
training. Hand feeding can be one of the funniest and most entertaining experiences.

Koi are none-aggressive fish. Koi do not have teeth, so you will not get bit if you decide to attempt to feed your
Koi out of your hand. This even allows you to get smaller children involved. Smaller children will be delighted by
the beautiful colors and gentle nature of the Koi.

Koi, like any other wild animal, will naturally be afraid of you in the beginning. Instincts tell them to be afraid
of you, which is what keeps them alive in the wild. You must build up trust with your Koi, and this takes time and
patience. You will not be able to hand feed over night.

Koi are omnivorous fish, which means they will eat both meat and plants. This means that their diets are very versatile.
Koi will eat pretty much anything that you put in the pond with them, no matter if it is good for them or not. Since
Koi do not have a sense of what is bad and good for them, as their owner you must control their snack diet. Another
potential problem is over feeding treats. Again, Koi do not have the knowledge to know when to stop eating, and weight
issues may come from overfeeding none nutritional foods. The healthiest treats for Koi are what they would find naturally
in their ponds, such as earthworms and tadpoles, but it will not hurt to feed Koi treats such as lettuce, bread, fruit,
and veggies. You should pay special attention to the certain foods such as corn, beans, and grapes, as they contain an
outer casing, which cannot be properly digested if swallowed by Koi. If you must feed this type of foods to your Koi,
be sure to completely remove the outer casings before giving it to your Koi.

The trick is to start slow. Never make any sudden movements, as this will scare even the most trusting of fish. It will
be best to begin hand training your fish from the very moment you get them, but it is not impossible to train a fish that
you have had for awhile either. Begin by placing a few pellets or snacks in your hand and submerging your hand under
water. Slowly allow the food to fall out of your hand into the water. The Koi may not seem to be paying by attention,
but rest assured that they are aware of your hand, and are aware that you hand is providing the food. Do this for a
couple of days.

After you have dropped the food into the pond for a couple of days, and have gained the interest of your Koi, begin making
the fish remove the food from your hand. If the Koi refuse to take the food from your hand, do not feed them that day.
You will not stare your fish in this process. They will quickly get the idea that if they want to eat, they must get the
food from you. Doing this everyday will get them comfortable with you.

Once you have the fish eating out of your hand, then you can start getting your Koi to eat the food directly from your
fingers. If the Koi will not take the food out of your fingers, do not feed them that day. Food is your number one motivator
when it comes to wild animals, and no fish will simply stare itself because it is unsure of the situation.

Once your fish are comfortable with hand feeding, you can alternate between hand are regular feeding. If you are in a rush,
there is no reason to attempt to take the time to hand feed. Also, once you get your Koi taking food from your hand, be
careful when allowing visitors to feed your fish. Always supervise children and adults alike, making sure that they are
feeding the fish proper foods, and not making any sudden movements that will scare the fish.

Things you need to know about Koi Pond

First, you must understand that Koi ponds are not just simply holes in the ground that you can keep fish in. For a
Koi pond to work properly, and actually sustain fish, a number of different things must be considered when you begin
planning it. A few simple rules will ensure that you do not end up with an expensive hole with dead fish.

First, unless you have a large amount of knowledge in outdoor landscaping, fish keeping, and construction, it may be
a good idea to leave the pond building up to a professional. While some people think that building the pond yourself
with save you money, this could not be further from the case. If your pond is not build properly the first time, you
will end up spending a large amount of money on fixing the problems that come up. Not only that, if your pond is not
properly setup, you may not even be able to keep fish alive.

Remember when you hire a professional, it is their job to give you what you want. They can give their knowledge when
it comes to decision making, but ultimately, they will do whatever you want them too. Because of this, you cannot
blame them if your pond fails do to location, size, or other factors. However, beware of extremely cheap quotes as
they may cut corners that could potentially cause you problems later. While quotes will come in different, there
should not be a very dramatic difference between them.

Koi ponds, are by no means, swimming pools or animal water troughs. This is the reason why so much care must be taken
in planning and building your pond. It may cost more money then building a typical swimming pool, but the rewards are
much greater. Be sure to keep all children and other none fish pets out of the pond, as they can cause problems. If
your children swim in your pond, not only could they cause a chemical imbalance, but they could also cause major problems
such as leaks. While it is typically ok to have other pets around your Koi pond, some pets may get the idea that is fun
to mess with your filtration system or chase your Koi around.

Remember, the majority of Koi ponds are permanent once they are built. This means that you cannot decide in two or three
weeks that you do not want you Koi pond in the front yard, that you would rather have it in the backyard. Carefully plan
each and every aspect of your pond, because once it is built, there is little you can do to change it. Remember such
things as size requirements, and placement.

Finally, remember that maintaining a Koi pond can be a substantial amount of work. Make sure that you will have enough
time to carry out the everyday needed maintenance, and remember that, like with any other pets, issues will arise that
require extra special attention. Vet visits may be needed, or you may need to take some extra time out of your weekend
to clear up an algae infection. Have a plan, and make sure that if you are going to be going away, make sure someone with
enough knowledge to properly maintain you pond is available until you return.

Maintenance of water for Koi Pond

Keeping you Koi pond clean should be one of your number one priorities. A clean pond could mean the difference between
you Koi living a beautiful stress free life, and potentially suffering until they ultimately die. The water in which your
Koi live is not only where they eat, sleep, and feed, but it is also where they use the bathroom as well. If you do not
properly clean your pond, it is almost as if your Koi are living in the bathroom toilet.

The water in your pond should almost be completely clear. Your pond should contain no floating or suspended debris, and
the Koi should appear to be floating in air. If you are unable to see the bottom of your pond, then chances are your pond
is not clean enough.

We know that you take great pride in your pond, especially when you were constructing the beautiful landscape around it,
and picking out flowers that bloom in beautiful colors and have beautiful smell that are unmatched. However, no matter
how beautiful the landscape around the pond is, a pond is not successful unless you can sustain beautiful fish within
the water. While ponds are designed to resemble nature, you must remember that your Koi pond is actually just a really
large outdoor fish tank, and that it needs to be treated as such.

Unlike natural water systems, fish tanks need a large amount of care. Filtration systems are needed to maintain water
quality, and a pump system is needed to keep the water moving.

In nature, Koi would not nearly the amount of food that they do in controlled ponds. It is not unheard of for pond owners
to feed many pounds of food to their Koi per week. This produces a larger amount of waste, whether it comes from the
digestion process on the Koi’s part, or the amount of uneaten food that has settled to the bottom and spoiled. It is
important to vacuum the bottom out as much as possible, and make sure all types of drainage systems are clear and in
working order.

Another issue is the fact that your pond is indeed, outside. Being outdoors, your fish tank faces problems that a normal
indoor fish tank would never have to deal with. Debris can easily find its way into your pond. It is important to skim
your pond as much as possible.

No matter if your blame the Koi, yourself, or nature for the pond not being clean, it is important for you to clean it
up. The health of your Koi is at stake if you do not. Even if your water quality is clear, a large amount of debris can
cause your Koi stress. Stressed fish are more susceptible to disease and viruses.

Preventing Cleanliness Issues

Above cleaning your pond on a regular basis, adding preventative measures can also increase the cleanliness of your pond.

Keeping your pond moving is one way to help keep your water quality up Moving water adds more Oxygen to your water, as
well as potentially keep floating debris for collecting in your pond. Moving water can be achieved several ways such as
waterfalls, fountains, and pump filtration systems designed to move water.

Another way you can avoid cleanliness issues is by keeping your amount of fish down. Start by buying smaller amounts of
fish as spawning will cause you to have babies in the near future. The less fish, the less waste is involved.

Food supplies for Koi

As a new Koi pond owner, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of supplies needed to properly maintain your Koi pond.
While the importance of the majority of these items cannot be denied, the feeling of being overwhelmed by the amount
needed should be disregarded. Simply knowing the function of each item can help you understand why they are needed.

There are certain items that you need to have on hand at all times. Because you pond is outdoors, emergency situations
do occur. Nature is simply unpredictable at times, and you do not want to be caught in a situation where an item is
needed, but they is no way to obtain it.

Filters- Having a working filter is essential for removing unwanted pollutants, and maintaining proper water quality.
If you do not have a proper filter, water quality issues can occur, which in turn will cause your fish to have health
issues.

Pump- A pump is essential to the health of your pond. If you water is not moving, there is no way the system can
process the water. Moving water can also be from waterfalls, fountains, and other water features, but in no way should
completely replace your pump.

Dechlorinator- Tap water contains chemicals that can potentially harm your fish. When adding new water for any reason,
you must add Dechlorinator to eliminate these chemicals.

Test Kits- You will need to have ammonia and nitrite test kits on hand at all times. You will need to perform weekly
water tests on your water to ensure proper water quality. Emergency tests may also be needed in the event that you
notice discrepancies in your Koi behavior or in the water.

Pond Salt and Baking Soda- Pond salt and baking soda are used to regulate kH and Nitrate levels in the event that you
find a discrepancy. Pay close attention to the amounts you are suppose to add to your pond, which depends on size and
the issues you are currently having.

Bags- You must have the proper bags on hand to transport Koi. Do not attempt to transport your Koi in trash or regular
plastic bags, as they are not designed for this, and may cause damage to your Koi. Unless you remembered to keep the
bags you brought your koi home in originally, you will have to make a trip to your local pet store. Make sure to get
bags sizable enough to hold your Koi.

Rubber Bands- You will need quite a few rubber bands for each bag you buy. Make sure that your rubber bands are good
quality, as you do not want the pressure from the water to pop the rubber band in the middle of the transport.

Net- You will need to have a net sizeable enough to compete with your Koi. You will never need the net to pull the Koi
out of the water with, but you will need it to lead and direct your Koi into the place you want them. Nets can potentially
damage your Koi, especially as the larger they get.

Paint Bucket- A paint bucket is a better option for catching your Koi, as they cannot hurt your Koi like a net can. Make
sure that your bucket is sizable enough to hold your Koi.

Koi Staple Food- Like any other pet, Koi need to be fed daily. Talk with your local pet store or Koi dealer when picking
foods for your Koi, as different seasons may dictate the type of food you need to be feeding. Koi have even been known
to eat out of their owner’s hand, so make sure to get food in which you are able to do this with.

Koi Treats and Snacks- Like other animals, Koi delight in treats, and will respond in a playful manner to them. Specific
Koi treats are available at your local pet store. If you do not mind feeding “human” food to your pets, you may even
consider feeding your Koi veggies, fruit, and bread.

How to keep Koi

Koi pond’s popularity are on the rise, and the reasons are obvious. Who would not want living creatures as a part
of their garden? However, Koi keeping should not be taken lightly. Koi, like any other animal, require time and
money to maintain. The majority of first time Koi owners fail because they get the idea that keeping Koi is easy
in some way. Do not let this discourage you though, as educating yourself will greatly improve your chances of
succeeding.

It is important for you to learn all you can BEFORE you begin obtaining the things you need for Koi keeping. This
way, you will not slip up and have to replace anything that you have already done or bought. Planning ahead will
not only save your money, but it will potentially save your sanity as well.

It is important to learn the information for yourself rather then relying on other sources. People such as your
product dealer and pond builder will have limited knowledge, but should not be trusted for a reliable source,
as they are selling products, and may be bias. Plus, once you are at home with your Koi, your product dealer or
pond builder may not be available to help you in the event of a problem.

Your Pond

Before ever buying Koi, you must create a proper habitat for them. This is where information from your pond
builder and supplier will come in handy. However, you should not rely on the opinions of just one person. It
may be a god idea to do research on your own, before you go to purchase the materials needed for you pond.
Because of it’s popularity, an unlimited supply of resources can be found on the topic of Koi keeping. Visit
your local library, fishery center, or research online. There are quite a few things needed to sustain a
habitable pond.

When it comes to pond size, the bigger is always better. Koi have a habit of growing rather fast, so you have
to consider pond size at the same time you are considering how many Koi you are going to put it in.

You filtration system is extremely important. There are 2 types of filtration, mechanical and biological.
mechanical filtration relives the pond of solids such as dead algae, insects, and Koi wastes. It is important
to have enough filtration to sustain the size of the pond, and the amount and size of your Koi. Biological
filtration causes a nitrogen cycle, which is what removes dissolved wastes from your pond. Without biological
filtration, built up waste will turn into ammonia and kill your Koi within just a few days.

Another consideration is the water quality. It is sometimes said that having Koi is literally just a side
effect of having the proper water quality. To keep your Koi alive, you must have the proper knowledge on how
to maintain your water quality.

Buying Koi

There are potentially thousands of different types of Koi, with about 20 different popular versions. Koi are
popular because of their beautiful colors and patterns.

Your pond should be complete before you even look into buying your Koi. The size and amount of Koi you buy
should be highly based on your pond. Be careful, overstocking will cause problems right away with you pond,
potentially killing many of the Koi you purchase, causing you to loose time and money.

Most fish owners understand that most fish will only grow to the size of their enclosure. Koi, unlike other
fish, will grow until they are the size of their specific type. You must be able to accommodate the amount of
fish you purchase in the future.

that can literally light your day. Koi come in many colors, varieties, and kinds, so it is likely that everyone in the
world can find at least one type of Koi that would suit their likes. While Koi may be a welcomed beauty to your pond,
they also have an interesting history attached to them.

In Chinese culture, Koi ponds are said to being good luck to their owners. Koi ponds are used as an overall plan to
fulfill their lives. Other parts of the world consider Koi ponds as a form of relaxation and serenity. In the united
states, more and more people seem to find Koi ponds to be fun more then anything else. No matter what the reason you
find to have a Koi pond, they are sure to brighten your life.

However, Koi keeping should not be taken lightly. Koi, like any other animal, require time and money to maintain. The

Koi Have Personality

You would not believe that Koi actually have personalities similar to other animals. They are social, and can even be
trained to eat directly from their owners hands. The more time you spend with your Koi, the more you will notice each
Koi has individual characteristics and traits.

Koi have been known to live for up to 200 years at time, but generally the average lifespan of a healthy Koi is about
30 years. So if you are looking for along time pet companion, Koi may be a good choice.

Building Your Koi Habitat

Before ever buying Koi, you must create a proper habitat for them. This is where information from your pond builder and

Besides the technical aspects of your pond, you will also have the ability to create a visually appealing area as
well. Waterfalls, fountains, and other water features will not only add a visual show to your pond, but it will also
create movement and sound. A variety of plants and flowers are also available for your pond.

Paper Craft Hobby

Paper crafts are a popular pastime right now.  Scrapbooking is a fun way to display pictures and chronicle family
history.  Other paper crafts include making greeting cards and even making hand made papers.

When getting started at paper crafts, it is easy to spend a lot of money!  Go easy at first until you know what
sort of paper craft products you are likely to use.  For instance, you may find that you love using stickers in
scrapbooks, but rarely use your rubber stamps.  If this is the case, you would be better off spending more on
stickers and less on rubber stamps for your paper crafts.

Almost everyone has at least some of their photographs stored somewhere in a shoe box.  Scrapbooks are a great way
to get those photos out where people can enjoy them.  You will need a loose leaf binder, some plastic page
protectors, and some colored cardstock for starters.  Many paper crafts experts insist on only archival quality
materials.  Check the labels as you buy.  Most paper products, even the cheaper ones, are labeled "acid-free,"
which means that it shouldn't fade or otherwise deteriorate if stored for a long time.  Sunlight will bleach almost
anything, but your paper crafts should not be out in the sunlight very often.

To start a scrapbook you have several options.  You can select photos that all relate to one event, such as a trip
or a child's participation in sports.  This type of scrapbook will be short, but can be designed around a theme.
This is a good choice if your photos are not in a jumble.  If they are, then you may wish to choose 3 or 4 photos
around a general theme, and change the theme for each page.  You may want to include some 2 page spreads in your
scrapbook.

Attach your photos to the cardstock with double-sided tape squares or a gluestick.  Then it's time to decorate the
page with stickers, paper shapes, or rubber stamped designs.  In addition, you can use a colored gel pen to write
dates, names, and other highlights about the activities in the pictures.

Other items are available in paper crafts stores.  These includes die cuts, which are pieces of paper already cut
into shapes and objects.  There are also special scissors that cut paper with an interesting edge.  A pair of the
type called "deckle" scissors is very useful for making elegant looking scrapbook pages, greeting cards, and other
paper crafts.  If you also have an old pair of pinking shears that are too dull to cut fabric, you can use those
for cutting out shapes and photos.

Many paper crafts enthusiasts begin with scrapbooking, but then branch out to making their own greeting cards.
Greeting cards may or may not have an original poem written on the inside.  A simple "Happy Birthday," "Get Well
Soon," or even just "Hi!" is enough to brighten someone's day, so don't worry about not being a good enough writer
to make your own greeting cards.  Rubber stamps often make beautiful greeting cards.  You can even attach small
ribbons, beads, and other items to hand made cards.  A handmade card is sure to please anyone, whether they are
interested in paper crafts or not.

Stamp Collection Hobby

Stamp collecting, also known as philately, is a popular and educational past time.  Stamp collectors save
stamps from letters, especially those from other countries.  They also search out old stamps that represent
a past time.  Stamp enthusiasts can be found everywhere.  Their notebooks and glassine envelopes filled with
stamps are fascinating to look through.  Many of the stamps they collect are very valuable as well.

Materials needed for starting a stamp collection include a stamp album and special mounting tapes called
hinges.  Tools you will find useful are a pair of small tongs or tweezers for carefully lifting delicate
old stamps and a magnifying glass for finding minute details.  The beginning philatelist can start with the
stamps on the mail that arrives this very day.  To remove a stamp from an envelope, carefully tear away the
envelope from around the stamp being careful not to tear the stamp itself.  Now soak the stamp in warm water.
The remaining piece of envelope will turn loose, allowing you to lift the stamp from the water with the tongs.

Lay the stamp on absorbent paper.  When dry, place a heavy book on top of the stamp to flatten it.  As a past
time, stamp collecting requires precision and neatness.  Place the dried and flattened stamp in the album by
using one of the hinges, or store it in one of the tiny glassine envelopes unique to stamp collecting.

Many collectors specialize in collecting currently available commemoratives as a past time.  Stamp designs
are varied, beautiful and interesting.  Commemoratives are those special stamps that are released by the post
office for a limited time.  They can commemorate special people or events.  Most nations print commemorative
stamps from time to time.  American stamps have featured wild life, artists, antiques, and many other themes.
In fact, there is an annual contest in which American school children compete to draw the best picture of a
wild duck.  The best duck art is featured on a stamp.

A fun way for a young person to build a collection of foreign stamps is to find a few pen pals in foreign
countries.  This activity helps people make friends as well as broadening their outlook.  There are also
companies that will send out introductory collections of foreign stamps in order to get stamp collecting

Green House Hobby

For people who would like to do more gardening but live in a short growing season area, a hobby greenhouse is
the answer.  A hobby greenhouse is not large enough to produce vegetables or flowers on a commercial basis.
It will, however, give you a place for a tomato plant or two and some fresh greens even if you live in the northern
regions.  Greenhouse enthusiasts even have their own association, called the Hobby Greenhouse Association, which
publishes a quarterly magazine.  The organization also sponsers events and helps individuals connect to get help
with the aspect of gardening that they are interested in, whether it's growing cacti or saving seeds.

If you are in the market for a hobby greenhouse, there are several types on the market.  The smallest type is not
large enough to walk into and must be accessed from the outside.  It resembles an old-fashioned phone booth made
all of glass and outfitted with shelves.  This type is designed to fit as many plants as possible in as small a
place as possible.  The shelves are made of glass to allow as much light as possible to reach plants on the lower
shelves.  Another inexpensive version of this sort of hobby greenhouse is shelving covered with a zippered tent
of clear plastic.  This sort of arrangement is great for the small-scale hobby gardener wanting a place to keep
her flowers or houseplant starts.

There are a variety of designs of hobby greenhouse that are large enough to walk into but made entirely of clear
glass or plastic.  They are often about the same size as a small storage building.  Some independent builders
have started making these to sell locally.  Among national brands, one of the nicest is called the "Solar Prism."
It is called this because of it's unique construction.  This hobby greenhouse is made of a single piece of durable
clear plastic which is designed to work like tiny prisms side by side.  They trap the rays of the sun and shoot
them back into the greenhouse at all angles.  For this reason, these little  greenhouses are said to glow when
the weather is cloudy.

Better hobby greenhouses are equipped with automatic sensors that open vents which allow ventilation and keep the
interior temperatures from getting too high.  These are a great labor saver, but can get expensive.  Another benefit
sometimes found in nicer greenhouses is a built in irrigation or misting system.  Members of the Hobby Greenhouse
Association, or HGA, have invented many interesting designs of greenhouses.

If gardening is your hobby, greenhouse growing will interest you.  With a greenhouse, you can have the earliest
tomatoes and salad greens all year.  You can also start seedlings for the main garden early in the spring when
outdoor temperatures would kill them.  A hobby greenhouse can be a good investment.

Christmas Craft Ornaments

Christmas ornaments made from ordinary pipe cleaners and inexpensive acrylic beads are very pretty and easy to
make.  They look quite impressive yet are easy enough for small children to make.  This is one Christmas craft
idea to use again and again.  Older people will enjoy making this Christmas craft, too, which can be varied to
make a number of different sparkling ornaments for your Christmas tree.

To make the bead and pipe cleaner ornaments, you need common pipe cleaners in desired colors and acrylic beads.
Two types of beads are particularly effective when strung on pipe cleaners.  One type are called sunburst beads,
but are also known as paddlewheel beads, snowflake beads, or starburst beads.  These beads have six faceted
paddles spaced equally around a center that contains the hole for stringing.  When several of these sunburst
beads are strung consecutively, they fit against each other in an interlocking pattern.

The other type of bead that is also effective for this Christmas craft is called the tri bead or propeller bead.
It has three rounded bumps arranged around the stringing hole.  Like the sunburst beads, the tri beads interlock
when strung consecutively.  For the most sparkly and attractive Christmas ornaments, get tri beads and/or sunburst
beads in translucent colors of red, green, and clear.  The tri beads can also be found in metallic gold and silver
which can be used in this Christmas craft as well.

Pipe cleaners can be found in silver and gold tinsel as well as chenille of all colors.  For the Christmas craft,
the best colors to use are the metallics and Christmas colors.  The beads cover the pipe cleaners, but the ends
will need to be twisted together and made into hangers, so they show.

Anyone, even small children, can string these beads on pipe cleaners.  Bend up the end of the pipe cleaner so the
beads don't fall off.  The pipe cleaner works like a needle, making a needle unnecessary.  For best results, show
the children how to alternate colors when stringing, or start a pattern of three colors.  When the beads are strung
on the pipe cleaners, they can be bent into different Christmas shapes.  For instance, string red and clear beads
alternately, then bend down one end of the pipe cleaner for a candy cane shape.  Or alternate red and green beads
and form a circle for a wreath.  Use red pipe cleaner to form a small bow to decorate the wreath.  Form a hanger
for the Christmas craft or simply slip the circle over a branch of the tree.

If you experiment with clear beads and silver pipe cleaners, you can make some beautiful snowflake or star ornaments.
Snowflake designs can be twisted of silver pipe cleaner only, without the beads for a simple but pretty decoration.

Bead and pipe cleaner ornaments are a Christmas craft you will find yourself using every year.  Children and their
parents will both appreciate this simple yet pretty Christmas craft.
